I've wanted to try Komé Sushi Kitchen for a while. There aren't many choices for Japanese food in Austin and I'd heard good things. It turns out their new location is a short walk from our home so we took advantage of a work holiday to try it out.

I started with some miso soup. Sadly the soup was bland and served too cool.

Miso? More like blando.

The pickled ginger looked a bit more home-made than usual. Nice touch.

Housemade ginger maybe?

Erin's meal. The rice was very chewy and the fillings not very interesting.

My Unagi roll. Again, chewy rice and a moistened seaweed wrap gave these a rubbery texture that detracted from enjoyment of the eel -- and that's saying a lot because eel is the most delicious of the freshwater mud snakes!

And my entree: the house fried chicken. The chicken was good with the fish sauce & chile dipping bowl.... but it was a burnt in places and very tough. I'm getting pretty old and my jaws tire easily. The salad was meh. I wanted it to have some kind of gingery kick to balance the funk of the cabbage but no such luck. The Japanese pickles were a nice touch with white rice.

I'd like to try Kome again for dinner. Maybe they bring a better game at night. I give their lunch 2.7 Aemon stars.
