Dai Due
The only reason I found this place was because I was trying to plot a dinner location that would bring us past JT Youngblood's for milkshakes afterward. Let me tell you, this place almost upstaged the milkshakes!
Great ambience. We were there early on a weekday, so it was nice and quiet. Solid hardwood tables that didn't wobble a bit when I aggressively shook them.
Some drinks. I asked for a ginger beer and our server said they didn't have that but he could get me an ACV (apple cider vinegar) with sugar. He said, "it scratches the same itch" and I was like ohhhhhh kayyy let's do it. Was it good? The answer is no. Was I grateful for the new experience? Definitely.
This menu is not Erin friendly. I was like "hey this one's not pork, it's wild boar--- ohhhhh". But we did found a starter, Broccoli Fritters, that seemed a good match for us. They were really good! Crisp. Moist on the inside. Broccoli notes were very subtle. Texture much like falafel. What really set them apart was the dipping sauce of yogurt and sweet chile -- with the chile on top, unmixed so you get that age old conflict playing out on your tongue with each bite.
Erin's Entree, Blackened drum with a Lemon Aioli. I only had a couple bites but really liked it. The sear was perfect, and the aioli lent it that fatty savor that is often missing in fish.
I opted for the "Supper Club" because I like to be included in things, and because who doesn't want beef bourguignon on a cold Texas evening? This was excellent. Rich, hearty, filling. You can't go wrong with a nice beef stew cooked in red wine.
Dessert. This came as part of my Supper Club membership (paying off already!!). It's lemon cake with fresh berries atop a sweet lemon custard. I like when things have layers because it feels like I'm discovering new things. The cool berries balanced the warm cake and rich custard perfectly.
This place is great! I like their inventive and thoughtful menu. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and service could not have been better. 4.3 aemon stars
