Josephine House

Josephine House

Josephine House looks like an adorable New England bed and breakfast. The inside is small but didn't feel cramped. Service was snappy and friendly; our food was out in less than 5 minutes.

Erin ordered a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and I was like, "I'll have one, too!" You only live, once am I right? And boy was I right: this little mother-cusser was perhaps the highlight of the meal -- and that's saying a lot because the rest of the meal was quite good!

Erin got a cinnamon roll. This wasn't just any cinnamon roll though. The pastry was thin and layered like a croissant and baked in butter and sugar so that the papery layers were almost like baklava. Really cool spin on a classic.

Here it is folks. I scanned down the list of breakfast items for the most expensive thing and what do you know: king crab avocado toast. Obviously ordered this thing. But went one step further and upgraded with a poached egg on top -- put an egg on it! yeah, yeah! That egg set me back a pretty penny but it was worth it to get the yoke permeating down through the layers of fresh garden veg, succulent crab and creamy avocado. Did I mention the bread? It was set upon a foundation of thick-cut, home-baked Texas toast. Classy. This dish suffered only one small setback: a layer of mushed peas between the bread and avocado.

Erin's pancake. I can't really say much about this pancake because I only had one bite and it'd gone cold already because I was too busy blathering about one thing or another and I didn't the piece Erin had passed over. Seemed decent though!

This meal was really good. I liked that each dish was prepared with so much care and had something surprising to offer. Barely had to wait. Great ambience. Best to go right when they open.
